About

My name is Bob Stone, and I am the Chair of the Underhill Select board. I also serve as the 1st Assistant Chief of the Underhill-Jericho Fire Department. I have deep roots in Underhill and enjoy living in Underhill with my family and friends old and new and terrific neighbors.

Mt Mansfield has been an anchor to me throughout my life, a sense of wonder and solace. I am incredibly grateful that my ancestors chose to start our family here back in 1823. I honor the native peoples of this land who have lived and worked here since time immemorial. My great Uncle (Felix Doon) served on the Underhill Select board back in 1923, my grandmother (Thelma Stone) was a ballot clerk, my dad (Wally Stone) served as a town lister, and my sister (Bridget Stone) serves as the director of library services in Georgia, Vermont. I have exemplified this since joining the Underhill Jericho Fire Department as a junior attending Mt Mansfield Union High School in 1989. I respond to emergency calls in our community at all hours of the day or night on birthdays and holidays as a member of the fire department, while serving on the select board and on numerous other committees and boards. I am grateful to my wife Nicole, and my son David for their support and understanding of these sacrifices.

Professionally, I am a Vermont State Fire Marshal. I am experienced in the review of building construction plans, fire prevention activities, life safety inspections, as well as fire cause investigations. Since beginning my career with the State of Vermont in 2006, I have been actively involved with the Vermont State Employees’ Association (VSEA). I am a member of the VSEA Board of Trustees and presently serve as the VSEA Non-Management Unit Chair.

A few of the accomplishments that I am most proud about are:

• Supporting the Natural Resource Inventory and mapping, this will provide data related to our natural resources while maintaining our rural character

• Supporting the completion of the Underhill Flats sidewalk project

• Supporting Underhill’s ARC (Anti Racism Coalition)

• Supporting the Historical Society’s shed project

• Introduced and supported a ballot initiative to create a solar array decommissioning fund

These past three years of service on the Select board have been rewarding, and I have a new appreciation for those that have served before me. We face some incredible choices in the years to come, I look forward to working with all the town employees, committees and listening with care to Underhill citizens. Diverse, thoughtful input makes Underhill a special place that I love to call home. I would appreciate your support on or before March 1st and encourage everyone to please participate in town matters.
